Entry 1: The Beginning

Welcome to the Room 202 blog.  My name is Lance and I have been a special services teacher for the past 24 years (I started back in 1993).  Currently I work with 6th graders who have a variety of disabilities, but many of my students are autistic.  Every day is a little bit different, which is why I love my job.
Now you're probably wondering what this blog is going to be all about.  Throughout my entire teaching career I have seen many things come and go, but the one thing I have always been passionate about is assistive technology.  Assistive technology can level the playing field and when used correctly can make any student successful in any environment.  This blog is going to show some of the different ways I am using assistive technology in my classroom and give some tips with different articles I have read.
My wife will also be contributing to the blog occasionally also.  My wife has cerebral palsy and has been working in the vocational rehabilitation field for the past 13 years.  She has a unique perspective on things and has opened my eyes to things that I never would have thought of before.  We like to say that I take care of students until they are 18 and then she takes it from there.  So we both hope you enjoy the blog and come along for the ride.
